This probably isn’t the news you want to hear during a crazy summer heat wave, but it could end up helping you!
I know plenty of people who sleep with a fan on every single night, whether it be in the middle of summer or on a frozen February night- including myself. For me, the colder the better. I want my bedroom to feel like the inside of a refrigerator so I can burrow in bed wrapped up like a god damn burrito.
I can’t really explain the thought process behind this, either. I’m not cold, so I’ll make myself cold, only to burrow myself in blankets to make me warm, which I already was in the first place. Then if it gets too warm, I gotta do the one leg under the blanket, one leg out thing. Sleeping is complicated, and I don’t have the audacity to question it.
There’s also something about the sound of a fan. It’s that little white noise that soothes and calms the soul. Add in some rain/thunder sounds of waves crashing on the beach and it’s just sublime. Or, if you’re like me, episodes of The Office on repeat.
However, since all the best things in life are bad for you, here comes the bad news: sleeping with fans on could be not so great for you.
According to Sleep Advisor, fans blow dry air throughout the room, which could be bad for your sinuses, skin and eyes. Think about your fan blades collecting dust every single night and spewing it around the room. You could also wake up with sore muscles from concentrated cool air can cause you to cramp up.
It’s basically a case-to-case basis on whether or not sleeping with fans is a good move for you, just do you. I am 100% sure that I’m not going to consider, even for a split second, changing my fan-sleeping ways. I am who I am.
