It’s the first day of Summer and it certainly showed up in style. Hot, humid, sweaty, nasty style. Gross.
With temps in the Fox Valley reaching up to 95 degrees and a real-feel temp hitting over 100 degrees…it’s a little brutal out there. Don’t worry, by Wednesday it’ll cool off to a “slightly less, but still kinda” miserable 85 degrees.
We can all crank the A.C. or plot down in front of a fan, but an absolute staple for hot summer days, dawning from way back to childhood, is a nice frozen treat. Ice cream, slushies, popsicles, it’s what I imagine actually kept us alive as kids. I have no clue how people survived without air conditioning or freezers. I wouldn’t even want to.
This summer, though, everything changes. A new, rather…unique(?) popsicle emerges. From the makers of hot dog condiment favorites, ketchup and mustard…I give you…
The ketchup popsicle.
Hey Canadian friends, your favorite condiment just got a whole lot cooler 🍅🧊

Weird flex, French’s, but okay.
I mean, I would. I definitely would. Hear me out.
Canada must have a special kind of relationship with ketchup. Unlike the U.S., just north of the border, ketchup potato chips are not only a thing, but they’re beloved. Growing up in Detroit, and working for many years at a Canadian radio station, I was able to get my hands on the mysterious ketchup chips. Let me tell you, they are DELICIOUS. I have no idea why Canada is somehow ahead of America on the curve of junk food, but they are.
Think about it, ketchup is tasty. Why wouldn’t it be good frozen? Now, would I drink ketchup? No. Would I eat it by the spoonful? Also, no. The more I think about it the weirder it seems to think of frozen ketchup as a good option, but I’m an unconventional guy, so I’d give it a go.
Sadly, the tomato-based frozen treat is only available in select Canadian cities…for now! You never know, it might make its way over stateside to refresh us on a hot summer day.
Also, protip:
Dip your grilled cheese into ketchup. It’s the best thing ever and I’ll never eat another grilled cheese as long as I live without ketchup. Thank me later. ✌️
