Okay, so that’s not what the new Tesla “Optimus” robot will look like, this is what it will actually look like:
Woah. I think we’ve all at some point thought robots were cool, right? We’ve seen movies and T.V. shows that have awesome robots that make our lives insanely better (think The Jetsons robot, Rosey or C3P0 from Star Wars). Who wouldn’t want a robot to do chores, cook dinner, pick up the kids, organize the house, walk the dog in the middle of the night, and basically be your very own personal assistant? Maybe it’s just me but it seems like we’re all doing more chores or jobs than ever before. Or maybe I’m just bad at adulting. It’s probably both, idk.
On the other hand, we’ve also seen movies like…uhh…TERMINATOR, where it’s just bad news all around and the robots get smarter and stronger than humans and decide to make us their slaves. Not great for us people.
Sidenote: This sounds eerily similar to the movie Ex Machina. [Trailer] Solid movie, highly recommend!
For better or worse, Elon Musk fully intends on creating robots for everyday home use. In fact, if all goes according to his master plan, he will unveil the robot for the first time in September. Is anyone else a little nervous?
AI Day: Elon Musk unveils ‘friendly’ humanoid robot Tesla Bot

Elon Musk has previously talked about the robot, saying that they will be specifically designed to be able to run away from, and also “most likely overpower it” (which got a nervous chuckle from the audience, and hilariously, himself(?)). Musk also followed up with, “hopefully will never happen…umm, you never know.” That’s both comforting and terrifying. He says that the robots will be designed for boring, menial tasks that we, humans, just don’t wanna do. Listen to what he has to say about the bot below.

Elon Musk tells us that our robo-bro (or RoBRO as I’m gonna call mine if when I get one), Optimus, will be more important to human society than the automobile. He might be right. An actual robot would literally change everything moving forward, much like the car did.

Sign me up for a robot buddy! While at first, I’m quite sure it might be very creepy and I may sleep with one eye open and have major trust issues with my RoBRO, I just think it would be awesome. I realize this could very well complicate the workforce, which is already replacing human laborers with automation. But, I’m a dreamer. It’s probably all bad in the long run, but I definitely think there is no avoiding a future with A.I. robots.
For anyone worrying about a possible uprising of machines, fear not. Elon Musk says they will be designed to be nice. Yeah, we’ve all seen that movie before… 😅 He also makes a point to say that if Tesla does not make robots, somebody eventually will. He’s definitely right about that, let’s just hope our dude Musky actually makes them nice!
Would you own a robot if you could?
