It appears that millennials and Gen Zers discovered a life hack: How To Get Free TV.
In all honestly, I wouldn’t expect many younger folks to really know that antennas give you free tv as the radio gives you free music. They probably never had to use anything other than their cable box and/or smart TVs. Today’s 21-year-old was born after the year 2000 and never lived a day of their life without the internet, which is crazy and makes me feel old AF.
Living in today’s times isn’t cheap. Most of us are dealing with the highest inflation of our lives. The economy is bouncing back from a pandemic, we still have supply chain issues from COVID and this whole Russian/Ukraine war thing going on. Everything is more expensive, and we’re not getting paid any higher. Depending on the services you get, you could be spending upwards of $150 to $200 a month just on streaming. That’s insane. But what if you found out you could just scrap that, save $150 a month and get your T.V. for free?!
It seems like a lot of Millennials and Gen Z’ers had no idea you could get free over-the-waves TV through an antenna. Now, I’m not talking about old-school 1980s rabbit ears- they have digital antennas that can get you anywhere from 50 to 150 channels for free. Okay, technically not for free… you do need to buy yourself an HD antenna, which will set you back anywhere from $30 – $80 for a decent one. You won’t be catching the latest season of Stranger Things, know what the hell is going on with the Housewives of BFE, or even be able to watch The Office on repeat all day every day. But you will get your local news channels and whatever shows they normally air, along with a bunch of other random and weird channels you’ve probably never heard of, but they actually can have great content of movies and shows you probably know and love.
If you’re looking to drop some streaming services to save some money, I think the better option would be to buy a $30 Roku or Amazon Fire Stick. From there, you can download plenty of apps that offer free tv and movies with limited commercials as well. Check out Freevee (formally IMDB TV) and Tubi– both apps offer tons of free stuff that’s actually good, and on-demand!
