On Monday (August 14), P!nk broke the record as the first-ever female performer to headline a stadium concert in Wisconsin at American Family Insurance Field in Milwaukee – and she did not disappoint!
P!nk is currently on her “Summer Carnival” Tour, which features opening acts KidCutUp and Grouplove, as well as supporting acts Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo.
The show included performances of “Just Give Me A Reason” featuring Nate Reuss (founder and lead singer of Fun and The Format), who accompanied P!nk on vocals via the big screens, “Kids In Love”, “Make You Feel My Love” (a Bob Dylan cover), “When I Get there”, and many more of her most iconic hits.
Leading into her performance of “When I Get There”, P!nk spoke to the crowd, saying:
“I learned how to harmonize singing with my dad. He could kick the hell out of the guitar. He used to sing in the Air Force. He was in a quartet. And he was incredible but he was tough. He was really tough. He was a tough man. He had a tough life and I miss him very much but he did say to me once, recently actually, he said babe you’re doing great. Really, you’re doing okay but I’m still waiting for that one signature song. You know like Crystal Gayle Don’t It Make My Brown Eyes Blue. I was like dad, there are so many things I want to say to you right now. We’ll leave it with this… Get this party started on a Saturday night. You just have to accept me. I do miss him though. He was funny as hell. Losing someone is like unpacking a suitcase for the rest of your life. So we do it with song, right?”
In between songs, a fan handed P!nk a cheesehead with the inscription “WISCONSIN LOVES P!NK.” After expressing her appreciation for the gift, the singer shared how she receives a lot of interesting things while performing. She said,
“Hi, is that like a blow-up stuffed cheese? Is that for me? Thank you! Thank you very, very much. It’s so nice and cuddly. Feels like a weighted blanket. It’s nice. I get given a lot of interesting things. I’m glad it’s not warm and real. I get told a lot of really strange, strange things on social media. I get told I’m irrelevant. That I should just shut up and sing. Oh my God, so many things that I won’t repeat.”
She continued,
”The point is that we stand up for what we believe in… in our heart. We want, all of us want the same chance. To be safe in this world and be loved. We want to be able to love who we love and, I for one, am just getting started. So I wrote a song called Irrelevant and I’m going to sing it.”
