Let’s open it up by asking you when you would like to retire?
Ultimately for me, it will be when I hit the Powerball, but we all can’t rely on that.
Gone are the days of retiring at 65 because old white America on their deathbed just can’t seem to give up a little bit of wealth.
It’s like a bunch of Mr. Krabs cryptically walking around hoping to be buried with their bank accounts
My 401k here at work which will estimate how you will have come retirement time based on the age & how much you put away each check.
Every once in a while I get a notification to check on it frankly, I don’t want to.
I have my retirement age set at 70 which means I have to do this for the next 30 years (pauses to weep), or more realistically until I die & I’m still only at 77% of what my retirement goal should be.
And I sure as hell am not gonna count on social security being around when that time comes.
Cue this elderly couple that is also feeling the sting of rising costs, especially when it comes to elderly care.
In June of 2022, Marty and Jess Ansen booked back-to-back Princess cruises. At first you might be thinking, “Well, they’re just enjoying their
golden years.” And I’m sure that’s part of it.
Prior to booking that back-to-back cruise, they had spent a whopping twelve hundred days at sea.
#1. They’re braver than me. Cruises don’t appeal to me at all. I treat it like flying. I don’t wanna be stuck in the middle of the air or sea in case something goes wrong.
#2. They’re doing this because they find it CHEAPER & more relaxing than being in a nursing home.
Quote, “The cruise life is very efficient. You don’t have to worry about paying rent or a mortgage, getting groceries or doing laundry.”
I love this. It’s a very forward thinking approach. But it got me thinking.
What a sad ass state of affairs we live in where now, our recently retired have to choose between living in a nursing home or going to sea BECAUSE IT’S CHEAPER.
A memory popped up where I put, NINE YEARS AGO, that I was gonna start a GoFundMe page just so I could start eating healthier & that ain’t golden at all.
