Just months after tying the knot on a televised ceremony that aired on January 4th, Gerry Turner and Theresa Nist announced plans to dissolve their union during an interview with “Good Morning America” on Friday. Turner and Nist were united at the conclusion of the inaugural season of ABC’s “The Golden Bachelor.”
“Theresa and I have had a number of heart-to-heart conversations, and we’ve looked closely at our situation, our living situation and so forth, and we’ve kind of come to the conclusion mutually that it’s probably time for us to dissolve our marriage,” Turner stated during the joint interview with GMA.
Nist was one of twenty-two contestants vying for Turner’s love, and though it proved not to be everlasting, the couple insists that they still care deeply for one another.
“I still love this person. There’s no doubt in my mind, I still am in love with her. I root for her every day,” said Turner. Nist responded in kind. “I still love him,” she stated.
So what went wrong?
Distance was a major factor. Turner lives in Indiana. Nist is based in New Jersey. The couple suggests that the difficulty in finding a living situation that complimented their respective families was a substantial hurdle.
“The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations, it’s been how dedicated both of us are to our families,” said Turner. “I think both of us feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart.”
