As the old adage goes: it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish. The Green Bay Blizzard dug themselves out of an early 16-point hole to top the visiting Iowa Barnstormers 52-32 Friday night at the Resch Center in Green Bay. An Iowa touchdown late in the first quarter inflated their lead to 19-3, but Green Bay’s Jazeric Peterson returned the ensuing kickoff for a score, igniting the team and the crowd, setting the tone for a 49-13 Blizzard advantage from that point forward. Blizzard QB, Max Meylor, led the way with 5 touchdowns on 166 yards passing.
The victory was the Blizzard’s fourth consecutive, improving their record to 7-3, and securing a three-game series sweep of rival Iowa who dropped to 1-8 on the season. Green Bay remains one game back of Eastern Conference leading Quad City (8-2) who disposed of San Antonio 51-37, and sets up a critical showdown this Friday against Jacksonville. The Sharks defeated the defending Champs (Arizona Rattlers) 54-48, and roll into the Resch Center sharing the second spot in the East with Green Bay. Kickoff is 7:05.
