R.I.P., Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios (and Medley Crunch and Minis). This is a sad day.

OK, let’s try to distance ourselves from the initial shock/outrage and look at this logically:
* Minis – I think we all could see this coming. Other than the size gimmick, there’s no real draw to the Big G Minis line. Truthfully, having sampled a number of cereals in that line, I have found that I actually eat more Minis in one sitting than the standard size, so (despite liking them) I have not gone back to that well. It’s a calories and a financial consideration as much as anything. I don’t need a super-sized bowl and I don’t need to stock my pantry any more rapidly than I already do, especially at the current price of a box of cereal.
* Medley – also not really surprising. Standard O’s and flakes and clusters, conveniently packaged in one box. This one is basically when you have a box of Honey Nut Cheerios and a box of Honey Bunches of Oats, but neither has enough left for a full serving, so you just combine them together in a single bowl. Unnecessary, so I can see this being axed.
* Chocolate Peanut Butter Cheerios – #Devastating…that’s all I have to say about that. How is this possible? I mean, the explanation is likely basic economics. Bottom line tends to drive most decisions of this nature, so it stands to reason that if more people had purchased this variety, it wouldn’t be going anywhere. Translation: I was the one who liked it. But cereal consumers, please explain how Chocolate PB Cheerios are getting axed, but Kellogg’s Honey Smacks continues to be stocked. Who’s eating that?
