MARINETTE COUNTY, Wis. — The Wisconsin Department of Criminal Investigation continues looking into a high-speed chase Friday that ended in a crash and a fatal officer-involved shooting.
Officers from multiple law enforcement agencies were pursuing a suspect on southbound U.S. Highway 41 in connection with a homicide in Dane County.
The chase ended near Schacht Road near Peshtigo when the suspect’s vehicle crashed while trying to avoid stop-sticks.
The suspect got out of the vehicle and approached law enforcement police officers. A sheriff’s deputy tried unsuccessfully to taze the suspect. Two Marinette police officers then fired their sidearms, striking the suspect.
Officers and emergency medical technicians began life-saving treatment and took the suspect to a local hospital where he later died.
The Department of Justice says a sharp-edged weapon was located near the scene.
No officers or emergency personnel were injured. The two Marinette officers are now on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
