“As real as they are unnecessary” – it’s a brilliantly honest tagline for a brilliantly gimmicky fashion accessory. Meet the Sticky Kicks, sneakers made with real Denny’s syrup.
“At Denny’s, syrup isn’t just something we serve. It’s part of who we are. It’s our golden thread. So, it only makes sense we’d be the first to turn it into fashion,” said Ellie Doty, the Chief Brand Officer and Senior VP at Denny’s.
It’s a literal application of the fashion slang “drip,” but it’s not all stunt and stratagem. The Sticky Kicks are legitimate, functional sneaks, designed in partnership with an iconic name in footwear, Mache. Each pair features a clear panel filled with real Denny’s syrup, and though the kicks might be serviceable, the pancake topper contained within is not. Denny’s cautions against attempting to use the sneaker syrup in a real-world culinary application.
The Sticky Kicks go on sale today, not-so-coincidentally National Maple Syrup Day, exclusively at DinerDrip.com. Available in men’s sizes 8-13, this latest contribution to diner art will set you back a cool $195.
Just gonna toss this out there: Christmas gift? I mean, if anyone in my family is still looking for ideas for this guy…
