Kaukauna fire crews had an unusual save this week when they were called to rescue a parakeet from a tree.
Assistant Chief Travis Teesch says they were called Monday morning to help the owner save the tropical bird.
“Apparently the bird doesn’t like it when the owner leaves the house and while he was going out to take his garbage out to the curb and had his big winter jacket on, the bird usually lands on his shoulder and he didn’t realize the bird had landed on the hood of his jacket,” Teesch explained. “When he walked outside, well, the bird got spooked and went up on the roof for a little while and from the roof went to this tree.”
According to Teesh, the bird was so high up, they had to use a ladder truck to reach it.
Teesh says he’s helped get a cat out of a tree and ducks out of a sewer, but never a bird out of a tree.
