A man accused of stabbing an Appleton police officer is not competent to stand trial. An Outagamie County judge finds that Troy VanGrinsven is not able to assist in his own defense on charges of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide, Battery to an Officer, and Resting Arrest Causing Injury. VanGrinsven allegedly followed the police officer on patrol and then accosted him in the parking lot of the Appleton Police Department–stabbing him during a physical struggle. He will remain in a mental health center undergoing court ordered treatment to regain competency.
