New judge takes over “sovereign citizen” case

A Marathon County judge will now handle the case of a Shawano County campground owner who claims “sovereign citizenship”. Ann Retzlaff is facing charges stemming from an alleged police chase back in May of last year. Since then, Retzlaff has missed a series of court appearances, claiming that the court does not have jurisdiction over her–and that she fears contracting COVID. She has also threatened to file a “common law” suit against the judge assigned to her case, the Shawano County District Attorney, and the Shawano County Corporation Counsel. That led to the judge recusing himself from the case–and it being turned over to the Marathon County judge.
