SHAWANO, Wis–The owner of a Gresham campground, who has claimed sovereign citizen status after a police chase in Shawano and Menominee counites, is back behind bars. 52-year-old Ann Retzlaff is taken into custody after failing to appear in court late last year. She’s charged with eluding an officer, recklessly endangering safety and resisting/obstructing an officer.
At the time of the chase, Retzlaff told the officers that they didn’t know the Constitution and that as a sovereign citizen she “was not required to stop for law enforcement.” Retzlaff emailed court officials in November that she would not appear in court due to fear of COVID-19. That’s when a bench warrant was issued for her arrest.
