Green Bay, Wisconsin is feeling the love today! Green Bay has been crowned as one of the top 3 cities to live in the United States, according to The US News & World Report’s 150 Bests Places to Live. Some of the deciding factors for placement on this list are affordability, desirability, and quality of life.
Kristin A. Bouchard, contributor to US News & World Report, writes:
“Home to one of the most storied football franchises in the NFL, the Green Bay Packers, Green Bay has the perfect mix of big-city amenities complemented with a Midwestern, small-town feel. This city boasts a thriving entertainment and arts scene, revitalized downtown, and two college campuses, creating an energy that may appeal to young families as well as retirees.”
Plus…cheese and beer. Lots of cheese and lots of beer.
Madison and Milwaukee also broke the Top 75 on the list. Madison landing at # 17, and Milwaukee at #75. Huntsville, AL., placed at #1, while Colorado Springs, CO., took the 2nd spot on the list.
Rounding out the Top 10 is…wait for it… San Francisco?!
HUH?! Out of all places to live in the U.S., I did not see that one coming. Sure, the weather is nice, they’ve got the Full House house, Alcatraz, and that cool trolly train thing, but SF seems like a tough sell for me. Considering the homelessness crisis, crime problem, and the general high taxes of California, it’s hard for me to wrap my head around the “affordability” factor. For example, I searched Apartments.com for the cheapest apartment I could find. The absolute lowest rental unit I came across would have you dishing out $1,700 a month for a room that’s anywhere from 90 – 200 square feet. SPACIOUS! You’ll also be sharing a bathroom, kitchen, and all living areas with 5-6 other renters. Oof. That doesn’t sound too affordable or desirable to me, I’ll stick with Wisconsin.
