Lawyers for Sam Smith and Normani are calling a copyright lawsuit claiming the stars ripped off an earlier song with their 2019 hit “Dancing With a Stranger,” “rambling” and nonsensical.”
According to Billboard, this is their first response to a lawsuit filed in March claiming the duo copied the hit from a 2015 song of the same name.
The attorneys, hailing from the law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, have asked that the case be dismissed, claiming that any similarities between the two tracks are common musical tropes.
