My first memory of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos was in sixth grade. I was sitting at the lunch table with my friends when I decided to see how many Flamin’ Hot Cheetos I could fit in my mouth.
18. The answer was 18 Flamin’ Hot Cheetos. That doesn’t seem like a lot, but hey, I was 12. The real takeaway was how gross it actually was. Without being able to close my mouth and swallow, my now blood-red stained spit just oozed out of my mouth and all over the place. I didn’t really take into consideration that it would also be burning the insides of my mouth at the same time.
Memories, am I right? Well, now thanks to Hollywood we have something else we didn’t know we needed… The Flamin’ Hot Cheeto Origin Story. I know what you’re thinking: “Wow, that sounds boring and needless.” That’s what I thought too, but the newly released movie trailer actually looks good.
With Eva Longoria making her feature film directorial debut with the film, Searchlight Pictures describes Flamin’ Hot as:
Flamin’ Hot is the inspiring true story of Richard Montañez (Jesse Garcia), the Frito Lay janitor who channeled his Mexican American heritage and upbringing to turn the iconic Flamin’ Hot Cheetos into a snack that disrupted the food industry and became a global pop culture phenomenon.
I know I’m not the only one who wants to run out and buy a bag or 10 right now. Look for Flamin’ Hot on Hulu and Disney+ on Friday, June 9.
