In all honesty, I am a giant kid at heart and definitely don’t feel nearly as old as I actually am. With that being said, this list still makes me feel old. Mostly because when I think back to doing these things, I think, “Holy crap that was 25 years ago… I’m old.”

Someone posted a list of everyday things we used to do, which now apparently makes us geezers. What do you think?
- Using a pencil to rewind a cassette tape. Cassettes were kind of getting phased out when I was little, so I was small enough to just use my finger. But those pencils fit in there perfectly.
- Hearing someone yell, “Get off the internet, I need to use the phone!” Yup. Back when if you wanted to be on the internet, you had to sacrifice being able to use your only home phone. My parents probably missed so many important phone calls.
- Cars that needed two different keys. One to unlock the door, and a different key to start the engine. Not only that, but I accidentally left my lights on one time at the movie theater and a friend of mine noticed, and he had a similar style vehicle, only he had a Chevy and I had a GMC (same company). He used HIS own key to open my door and turned the lights off. His engine key also worked on my car. Apparently, vehicle security wasn’t a big issue back that.
- When everyone’s favorite treat was Push-Up Pops, where you basically ate ice cream out of a toilet paper roll. BUT THEY WERE SOOOO GOOD.
- Printing out your directions from MapQuest. Kids today will never know the struggle of simply not knowing how to get somewhere. When MapQuest came out it was a game changer. The only bad thing was if there were construction detours or if you missed an exit. Also, not super safe to drive while reading a bunch of papers.
- Having a notebook where you kept track of all your friends’ phone numbers. At this age for me, I had like 3 friends so it was easy to memorize. My mom, however… carried around this little book with everyone’s phone number in it. The times were wild.
- If you wanted to watch a movie, you had to switch to Channel 3. Oh yeah, and sometimes channel 4 worked. Then you had to make sure the red, white, and yellow cables were plugged into the right inputs.
- Accidentally burning yourself with a car’s cigarette lighter. Yes, every single card had cigarette lights and multiple ashtrays. The lighter was a round metal thing you would push in to “charge” and then it popped out when hot. That thing lit up bright orange because it literally was scalding hot metal.
- Finding out which movies were at your local theater by checking the newspaper. Or you called Moviefone. Honestly, this is probably the most normal and rational thing on the list.
- If you weren’t listening to the radio, you were listening to something from your CD holder. A solid CD collection was a point of pride. You gotta have the jams, and hopefully on a baller burned CD with a playlist that features anything from Tupac to Michelle Branch, to Linkin Park. We all had the CD sun visor and probably also a big fat book that holds all the CDs.

Well that settles it, I’m old.
