Every so often Adam Sandler pivots from “goofy comedic” actor to a serious “hey, look at me, I can actually act” actor. Recently he did so with Hustle, and also notably, Uncut Gems, where we saw Sandler in a completely different form (crazy build up and ending).
And he nails it. Sand-Man can act. I’ll never forget watching Click for the very first time in like 2007. My old boss gave me a copy and said, “Good luck bro, you’ll cry your eyes out.”
“Yeah, oookay!” I thought. Then I took it home and watched it with my roommate. Three hours later, two grown ass men pretending that they didn’t just cry their eyes out at the end.
For Sandler’s next magic trick: He will play an astronaut on a solo mission in space exploring the solar system. Loneliness kicks in, he misses his wife and life on Earth, and eventually questions his sanity when he ends up meeting some “creature.”
I’m all in on this one. I love space movies, I love Adam Sandler- both versions, funny and serious, and I love movies that question your sanity. 10/10 excited.
Catch Spaceman on Netflix on March 1st.
