With their franchise quarterback firmly entrenched under center, the Green Bay Packers turned their attention to protecting him in the opening round of the 2024 NFL Draft, using the 25th selection on University of Arizona offensive lineman, Jordan Morgan.
Morgan, a 6’5″, 311-pound talent packs a double-punch of experience and versatility, capable of playing both tackle or guard positions, a unique selling point too attractive to pass up for Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst, and for good reason. The Packers lost three key components to their offensive line this offseason: David Bakhtiari, Jon Runyan, and Yosh Nijman. The selection of Morgan adds immediate depth and, ideally, long-term consistency up front with the opportunity to grow along with Jordan Love, who is expected soon to sign a long-term deal with the team.
“If you can protect your quarterback, particularly one like we have, you have a chance to win the football game,” Gutekunst said from the podium.
The draft resumes at 7pm this evening with rounds two and three. The Packers, at present, have four total selections in today’s rounds (picks #41, #58, #88, #91).
