APPLETON, WI — The first woman to serve as an Appleton police officer will be honored for her service.
Mildred Gardner joined the police department in 1922. The Appleton Police Department’s Facebook page says that came after five years of petitioning from the Appleton Women’s Club. Today about 13-percent of the department’s officers are women.
Mildred Gardner will be remembered during Women In Public Safety Day which is scheduled for April 2 at Fox Valley Technical College.
