The 2024 NY Mets came just a single series away from their first World Series berth since 2015, falling to the eventual champion LA Dodgers 4 games to 2 in the National League Championship Series. A lot was expected of the MLB’s highest team payroll entering the 2025 campaign. For the most part, they have answered the call, amassing a 55-42 record, good for 1/2 game back of the division leading Phillies at the break.
There’s still much about which to be excited for the tortured fan base of the “other” NY team…or is there? Die-hards of the Mets have long lived by the slogan “The most Mets thing ever” – a reference to the chaotic existence of Metropolitan fandom. Like many in the seats of any team, Mets fans have always looked for the bad omen, because (per the fans) the wheels always seem to fall off at some point. The Mets always seem to Met, to pull off “the most Mets thing ever.” Enter this footage from the Lumineers concert at Citi Field, home of Mr. Met, this past weekend:

Not only did the mascot of the NY Mets drop the tambourine, drop the can of corn pop fly, if you will, he literally free fell off the stage. He disappeared. Mr. Met vanished. If the bottom falls out on the second half of NY’s season, you can bet Mets fans, and probably all of us, will look back at this snapshot in time. The day the Mets dropped out of sight.
