KAUKAUNA, Wis. — Regulations on artificial intelligence data centers are approved in Kaukauna.
The common council votes to amend an ordinance allowing for the centers in the city’s industrial district, but there would be public hearings held on any proposals.
The amendment also allows Kaukauna to place limitations on data centers — such as usage of water and electricity — and to conduct annual inspections.
David Roloff, who lives in the city, says there is no guarantee those things will happen………
Council member Kelli Antoine says not guaranteeing the conditions protects the city in the future………
No AI data centers have been proposed in Kaukauna as of now.
The city’s Planning Commission is expected to consider enhancements to the ordinance amendment.
