A former Republican congressman from northeast Wisconsin believes changes can be made to gun laws, without infringing on people’s right to own them.
Reid Ribble is a gun owner, and he says he wouldn’t be opposed to a waiting period for a background check. He also thinks red flag laws can be a reasonable approach, if they’re done within the framework of the constitution.
Ribble believes closing the gun show loophole is an important step as well.
He says if Republican members of Congress would take action on at least one of those proposals, it would show that they’re not totally tone deaf to the horrible circumstances that are happening in the country.
Ribble doesn’t think Presidents Trump’s remarks or tweets incited the shooters in Ohio and Texas. But he does wish he would tone down his comments.
Ribble spent six years in Congress, through 2017, representing the eighth district. He was a guest on Fresh Take with Josh Dukelow on WHBY this morning.
