There’s a proposal to have Outagamie County use money from the upcoming half-cent sales tax to pay for the outdoor warning sirens.
Kaukauna Mayor Tony Penterman thinks that’s a better solution than having each community take ownership of the sirens and maintain them.
Penterman will ask the city council to support his proposal, and send it to the county board. He’s also asking other communities to get on board.
Combined Locks Administrator Racquel Shampo-Giese says she’s interested in Penterman’s idea. She says their village board already agreed to take ownership.
Appleton leaders haven’t taken up the sirens issue yet.
The county is hoping to have answers from every community by August 15th.
