The state might start requiring schools and day cares to test their drinking water for lead.
Republican Sen. Rob Cowles of Allouez is proposing two bills to force them to take action. He says some school districts still haven’t dealt with the lead issues, and parents need to be certain that their kids aren’t drinking lead-laden water.
Cowles says if any of them had high-levels, they would need to provide clean water while they fix the problem. The state would be able to help them cover the clean-up costs.
One bill would cover schools, and the second would tie testing to the state licenses for day cares, group homes, and summer camps.
