First responders are seeing more empty boats on the bay of Green Bay and Lake Michigan.
Crews say people aren’t as careful about tying them up and as water levels rise the boats drift away.
Gibraltar Fire Chief Andrew Bertges says that can keep rescuers on the water for hours. He says they have no idea if the person is in the water, and they have to call in multiple agencies to search the area.
Several departments plan to partner with the U.S. Coast Guard to offer “Found It” stickers. It would give people a place to put contact information on a boat so crews can try to track down the owner quickly.
