Appleton schools have a new system in place to deal with truancy.
The school board is agreeing to connect students with community partners to find programs to help get them back to class.
Board President Kay Eggert says they also want to ensure every school is offering the same services to all students.
She says if none of the programs work, there would be the option of referring the student to the county youth and family services agency. Eggert says there could be consequences for the student, including legal ones. She sees it as a last resort.
A special task force came up with recommendations, after the district suspended its truancy court last year. There were complaints from students and parents.
