The state is getting a federal grant to help improve technology at 911 dispatch centers.
Emergency Management spokeswoman Lori Getter says it’s called NextGen 911. She believes it would help dispatchers, if they’re overwhelmed in an emergency, because they could transfer calls to other centers.
The equipment would also let people text 911 and send pictures or video.
Getter says the state is also going to ask for funding for a statewide emergency services system. She’s calling the overall project a long-term one.
