Bad soil and rain are slowing down the work of volunteers to plant the Marigold Mile on Appleton’s south side.
The flowers were gone for the past two years, while the city rebuilt S. Oneida Street.
Joe Sturm of Fox Valley Nursery thinks they’re only about halfway done planting all of the marigolds. He says that’s because they also have to replace the soil along the street, with a better type. He says the soil that crews put there during the road construction project is good for weeds, but not for flowers.
Sturm says the wet weather is also delaying their work.
Strum says all of the flowers are at the nursery, and they want to get them out, so they don’t go to waste.
He’s asking for volunteers to reach out to Fox Valley Nursery to help.
