Two former top administrators at UW-Oshkosh are pleading guilty to one felony misconduct charge for the university’s foundation scandal.
Former Chancellor Richard Wells and Vice Chancellor Thomas Sonnleitner will each have to pay $75,000 in restitution and fines. They won’t spend any time in jail.
Wells and Sonnleitner were charged with illegally guaranteeing loans to the UW-Oshkosh Foundation for several projects. They included the Alumni Welcome and Conference Center.
The foundation couldn’t make the loan payments, and a federal judge ordered the university to pay the foundation $15 million. The state started investigating Wells and Sonnleitner three years ago.
