Rapper Pop Smoke‘s official caused has been revealed. According to XXL, the Los Angeles Coroner’s office revealed the results of the Brooklyn rapper’s autopsy over the weekend, which said his cause of death was a gunshot wound to the torso. The report also said that Pop Smoke died wile at the hospital and his body has been released to his family.
The rapper was shot and killed on Wednesday (February 19th) in the Hollywood Hills section of Los Angeles after four masked men broke into the home he was renting. The rapper was shot before the men left the home, which didn’t appear to have anything missing afterwards.
ABC reports that the incident is being investigated as gang-related. LAPD is also reportedly looking into if the murder had anything to do with the rapper’s recent arrest for allegedly stealing a Rolls-Royce Wraith that was loaned to him while in Los Angeles.
On another note, TMZ reported on Saturday (February 22nd) that days before the rapper’s murder, he canceled a performance scheduled in New York because of anticipated gang activity. He was due to perform at Brooklyn’s Kings Theater last Sunday (February 16th). Reports claim that Pop Smoke blamed the canceled show on the NYPD, who claim that he actually axed the show.
Following the Brooklyn rapper’s death, his music streams have increased by 392 percent. According to Billboard, Pop’s catalog garnered 24.7 million streams in the U.S. His record “Dior” from his Meet the Woo mixtape also had a 467 spike in streams, with 5.2 million listens after previously having 909,000.
