New drivers won’t have to take a behind-the-wheel test in Wisconsin because of the pandemic.
The DMV is waiving the requirement. The state is facing a backlog of more than 10,000 teens waiting to get their license while DMV offices are closed.
Administrator Kristina Boardman says the parents need to sign off. She says the agency is comfortable letting a teenager drive without the test, if the parent is comfortable.
The state will also let people renew their expired drivers licenses online. In the past drivers, have had to do that in-person at a DMV office.
