At Howe Community Resource Center they support families at Howe Elementary School and throughout Brown County.
The families in the Howe neighborhood struggle with a high poverty rate. Children attending school here are very likely to face homelessness, food insecurity and are much more prone to drop out of school than their peers. Howe Community Resource Center supports them by providing tutoring for students, general support and free monthly dinner nights that connect families to each other and to resources in the community. They provided over 1,200 meals in 2017.
Their parenting program provides parents throughout Brown County with education and support through home visits, parenting classes, and parent-child playgroups. Last year, their certified parent educators conducted 835 home visits and provided services to over 60 families. Families in this program are likely to be low-income, have little education and face mental illness. The goal of the parenting program is to support and educate parents so their children will be safe, healthy and ready for kindergarten.
